RIDER'S NARROW ESCAPE An instance of tlie strange effects of lightning occurred in a thunder-storm at Fremantle recently. A boy was riding a-horse between Carney's Hall and Yetna, when - tho animal was struck jay lightning on the head and killed“instantly. Tlie boy- was thrown on to soft sand, escaping unhurt. • - It was on the farse that the strange effects of the electrical discharge were to he observed. Both its ears were burned off, its nose tip was severed as if by a sharp knife, and down the forelegs were furrows about an inch deep, as if they had been deeply seared with branding irons. When the carcase was being lifted into a cart, to he removed for burial all tlie teeth fell out.
