(United Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Tins Day. A steerage passenger on the Manuka, which arrived from Sydney yesterday, mysteriously disappeared shortly after the vessel anchored in the.stream. The man, who is alleged to have, been deported from Australia as an undesirable and habitual criminal, was sought by the police and the vessel was boarded by a number of plain clothes men, who made a thorough search for him, but no trace could be found. Thete was a heavy heaving line hanging over the side and it is thought the many may have slip; ped down unnoticed and swam ashore.
