A GLORIOUS SHOW

ROSES IN QUEEN’S GARDENS BEDS IN FULL BLOOM The rosery in the Queen’s Gardens'* is now almost in full bloom, and during the weekend will well repay a visit. The rosery is a gift to the city by the Nelson Horticultural ’ Society, which has planted something near a thousand rose‘t bushes during the past two seasons. The varieties have been selected with great judgment, and areknown good “doers’, and continuous bloomers, giving flowers for several months, Beds have been arranged on a. colour scheme, and some great effects have resulted in masses of reds, pinks, and yellows. Labels arc being put in so that visitors will know the names of tho various roses, but is not yet quite completed. Tliis week there have been a large number of people in the Gardens inspecting the roses, and many complimentary remarks have been passed. From now oil. however, the display will be better than ever, and will be further enhanced shortly by the climbers, of which there are a large number and which are doing wonderfully well, coming into flower. The Horticultural Society has been warmly congratulated bn the pleasing x gift it has made to the city.

OTHER FEATURES IN THE GARDENS

Besides the roses there are' several interesting features in the Queen’s Gardens at the present time. A striking object' is a bush of crimson manuka in full bloom, -presenting a beautiful sight with its profusion of bright-col-oured flowers.

There are also a number of other shrubs at their nest, including rhododendrons and azaleas. One is struck with the display of cinei’arias. These have been planted at the base of trees in various parts of' the Gardens, and tho shade and shelter has suited them admirably and they are making' a great show of bloom.
