HARBOUR BOARD MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Motueka Harbour Board took place on Friday, the following members being present: Messrs H. Everett (chairman), F. C. Batchelor, C. B. Breretou, A. R. Ed wards, J. A. Guy, and C. 11, McKay. An apology was received from Mr R. P Hudson, M.P., for being unable to at tend the meeting on account of his be ing in Wellington. Leave of absence was granted. . „• _ . 'The secretary reported that tlu £3OOO, balance of loan money, is re * ceivable on the Ist November, as ar ranged. The Harbourmaster reported as lot lowa:—. “The total amount of revenue receiver amounted to £l2O 19s 7d, comparec with £l2O 13s 3d for the correspondnif month of last year. Although the re venue for last month shows favourably when compared with the figures for tin previous September, the amount re ceived was not up to that of the stan dard of the few years previously. Tin number of vessels entered and left tin port for the month was 35, namely, 2 steamers and eight sailing vessels, wit) a total of 2259 in registered tonnage The quantity of fruit shipped for tin month, calculated in computed bushel* was 10,5441, compared with 9,453 foi the corresponding September last year thus showing an increase of 1,073. Dur ing the present month, October, unde; the authority of the Works Committee I was engaged for' some time in iakmj roundings in the bay at the mouth o the harbour and in the channel to tin wharf. Fruitgrowers’ Association, asking for information with reference to the Board’s tariff on export fruit cargoes. Mr A. G. Hamilton, Tasman, requesting that the gorse on the roadside of the eastern portion of Lagoon-road be cut back. . . Several letters were also received from Messrs Hay and Vickerman (the Board s consulting engineers) with reference _ o detailed' matter of wharf construction works, now in progress. . Resolved (Mackay and Brereton), that the information asked for by the NaFruitgrowers’ Federation be supplied by thp secretary. Resolved (Brereton and Batchelor), that in response to Mr Hamilton s lettei, the chairman be authorised to arrange for the gorse being cut on Lagoon road, if found necessary. The chairman introduced the matter, which had previously received favour able consideration by local bodies and a former Minister of Public Morqs, bn Wm. Fraser, suggesting the formation of a road and the necessary bridge tc link up the southern end of High street, Motueka, in a direct line to the site ol the old Moutere wharf, thus shortening the distance by road from the Tasmai district to Motueka by two miles.
