CIVIL SERVANTS

IMPROVED POLITICAL RIGHTS (By Telegraph.—Special to The. Mail.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Another attempt is to be made to secure the passage of a measure giving public servants improved political rights. The Prime Minister to-night introduced an amendment of the Legislature Act. It proposes to repeal the disqualification of any State employee from being a candidate for a Parliamentary election if lie has been granted leave of absence for the purpose of contesting an election. Lave is to be granted only by the Public Service Commissioner in case of employees under that officer’s control, or by the 'Minister of any department not under the Commissioner’s control. The final clause states that if any person to whom this section relates is declared elected as a member of Parliament his employment as a civil servant shall he deemed to have been determined so soon as his rif’Hl to receive payment as a member of Parliament accrues.
