GENERAL ELECTION
-WHEN WILL IT BE HELD? (From Our Parliamentary Correspondent) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Prime Minister was asked by Dr iThacker (Christchurch East) in the Mouse of Representatives, whether lie had yet fixed the date of the general ; elections, or whether he could give an approximate date. j Mr Massey replied that it was impossible to fix the date until the session I came to an end. He had been aiming at the first week in December. Mr Holland (Duller) wished the Prime I Minister to undertake that the date would be so fixed as to allow members to get through their constituen- ’ t ics. Personally if ho were to visit one ' centre per clay, it would take him two /months to get right round his*district, but by fitting in two places in one day be could do it in six weeks. The Prime Minister replied that he would endeavour to give members time to get around. There was important legislation yet to come down, the difficulty being that the drafting office could not bring out bills as quickly as the House could deal with them. Mr Parry (Auckland Central) —“We have been here a long time.” Member —“Too long in some instances.” Information as to the excursion proposals of the Railway Department was sought by Sir Hockly (Rotorua) in the House. The Minister replied that there was no indication of improvement in the revenue and the Department could not afford to offer general facilities unless the public was going to use them. It was a long time before the Christmas holidays, but the revenue was being watched and if it was at all justifiable, the usual concessions would bo granted.
