Farmers j have been offered £5 15s per ton at .'country stations for whites, but few are inclined to accept this figure after the strong prices of a fortnight ago. The Opihi, sailing in a day or so, is understood to he taking only a small consignment. .There, has been a revival of inquiry i for oats from England, hut any margin | for export almost immediately disap- | pears on account of increases in the local price. Local values are generally up to 2/7 and 2/7/. for A grade Gartens, and 2/5 for )s’s at country stations. A few substantial parcels of cowgrass have been sold for the North at 115/- for machine dressed, a shade over. 1 /’- per lb. This is equivalent to 9J,d to farmers. White clover lias been sold at up to 1/8 for machine dressed. The loss is •much greater than in cowgrass. Tin* equivalent figure to'farmers is about 1/1 to 1/4. It is understood that entries for Die under-grade wheat pool are corning in freely from Southland, and to dale approximately 100,000 bushels have been offered. The bulk of this has not yet been threshed, and possibly a good deal of it will be of milling quality, and will eventually be withdrawn.
