At the Odd follow s’ Conference it was.resolved: •'That a. uniform rate of sick pay be adopted, namely 20s per week for the first 12 months, and 10s per week for tire remainder of sickness ; members on a lower scale of benefits than the above may elect to subscribe for higher benefits noon the payment of such contribution a,s the actuary may -determine.” The conference entered a very emphatic protest against the action of the Education Department in withholding portion of the salary of two school' teachers, attending the conference, and maintained that these teachers, while rendering an important national service hi endeavouring to promote the thrift movement in this country, should not be penalised. It was further resolved that the Grand Master be requested to interview the Minister of Education regarding the matter, Air Courtney ,of the firm of Young, Neavo, and Courtney, was appointed to tin* position of society solicitor, rendered vacant by the death of .Mr Thus. Xeave, / it was decided that the next ■conference be held in .Nelson. The conference resolved that the Government be asked to amend the Finance Act, 191 (5, «o as to allow £6 lor each child born at a confinement. Tf. was decided that the society adopt Urn bousing scheme in vogue in the Auckland district, and that the trustees be rooommended to invest funds in this direction.' To mark the respect and esteem in which the late Bio. John Kershaw, Grand Secretary, was held', iti was decided to erect a memorial over his grave at a cost of £250. A scheme for the initiation of a widows’ and orphans’ benevolent fund was. referred to the directors. The.conference lias concluded.
