INLAND MOTOR LAUNCH RACE

Aii exciting motor launch race was held on Lake Rotoiti last \veok. A. party from Wakefield, consisting of Messrs J. Ingram. 11. Griffiths aild J. lives, in Mr Ingram’s launch 503, challenged Mcsrs J. Blechyden, W, Burrell W. Richars, and F, Jarrett in Mr Blechynden's launch Eileen for a race over a nine-mile course. Mr W. Emms acted as starter, time-keeper --.and judge. One of the terms of the race was that the losers were to entertain the winners at the Top House Accommodation House, ■ ;

Tho, race proved most exciting to those on board the launches and spectators alike. On a shot from tha starter’s gun the engines on both launches were set in motion and the race commenced in real earnest. For a considerable time the distance between tho launches was not great, but gradually the Eileen took command and finished two-and-a-half minutes ahead of her opponent—a narrow margin considering the length of the race. What is known as the Rotoiti Cup is now held by the Eileen, but we are informed that the 303 is to be a challenger again with additional engine power, when it is hoped to gain possession of the Cup.
