WELLINGTON WOOL SALES

Increased peice^ Messrs Levin and Co. report as follows:—The .first sab of the 1921-1922 ! season was held yesterday at the Town lHall, Wellington, the total offering be~ I ing 16,000 bales, of which our cata- ! lbgue represented 3,950 bales-. ' There was a large attendance of buyers, all sections of the trade being tlnited Kingdom,. Continent, America, Japan, and Dominion mills and 1 scourers. Our catalogue, of which 94 per cent was sold, contained representative clips of the Wairarapa, s Manawatu, Marlborough, and Nelson districts. The wool generally was in fairly light condition and well grown, except that there were signs of check in the growth during the early auti unin. The get-up was open to imI provement, particularly as America 'only wants the best skirted lines. j Competition was strong for all 1 classes ! except- where wool was seedy. America i bid eagerly for all lots of good quality, tho market for such lots being y pushed well above the Bradford market . These orders were mainly for super and average grades ( of fine and medium crossbred, but were extended afeo to super and coarse and occasion'ally to super low crossbred. 1< or all these lots anything from Id to 2d was paid above the October level. For medium coarse and low crossbred of average and inferior grades not fit for America there was strong competition from Bradford and: the Continent at prices on a par to & farthing better than Wellington October sales. Southdown Wool sold excellently at 12$d to 133 d, halfbred iof good, quality was taken by Dominion woollen mills at good values, allso lambs wool (good quality and .free-, from seed.} at 7*d"to 81<1. • ■-. ■ ' ,■ .
