VISIT TO WEST COAST
COUNTRY LOOKING WEIJ.
(Bj Telograph—Special to Mail)
CHRISTCHIIRCU, This Dy
Mr J. ft. Brown, manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Co., who has just returned from a visit Io the West Coast, states that the country On the other side oCthe ranges is looking- particularly well. There is an abundance of feed everywhere and alt classes nf stock are in good condition. There has been a. good lambing ami dairying interests arc progressing. There is a fair quantity of fat- cattle held on the Coast, but unfortunately the last few months have seen/a, decided drop in the price of beef, and this-'in turn lias greatly affected the store ■ cattle market. Several properties have recently changed hands on the Coast ,and as fue district has never 'had a land boom there is room for a rise in land values when the. tunnel is through. Though there was a considerable amount of talk about, the limber mills having to close, down and men being out, of work, Mr Brown says there do not. appear to be a. great many men hanging about the town of Oreymouth > -with- nothing to do.
