Tin l employees of the Public d orks Departmeni held their Labour Day annual .sports on Monday, 24tli Ocn., 1921, at thafmost picturesque and charming rendezvous, ‘Holograph Flat,” The inclemency of the weathcm was, the means oi keeping a large conconrse of people home, so that the attendance was only about 300, anil from all appearances: one and all seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, -several ear loads front Nelson and surrounding districts were disappointed. at the climatic conditions, and our local postmistress, Miss Alyra Whitnall, had a very strenuous and arduous morning lit accepting apologies through the Telephone Bureau. Numerous apologies were received hy the joint lion, secretaries (through the post), a few we wish to mention, viz., Lord dellicoo (■Governor-General). Rt. Ron. W. F. Massey (Prime Minister), the lion. J. CL and Airs Coates Minister of Public Works), Hon. bir !L Renton Rhodes -(Minister of Defence), lion. D. ll.' Outline (Almi.sf.er of Lauds), and Mrs Guthrie, Hon. G. ■I. Anderson (Aliuister ol Labour), Ron. Mi Parr (Minister of Education) am! Mrs Parr, Air it. P. Hudson, ALP. (AloG.eka), who also kindly donated a guinea to the sports, Mr Harry Atmure, ALP., .Nelson, Lather Fay (of Nelson), who kindly donated a guinea to the ' ahme sports. After a severe and strenuous struggle: the Glenhope team were the winners. Air H.
