WAKEFIELD 11 | THE DOMAIN' An occasional correspondent writes: — There has been a desire shown in. the Wakefield district for some time to have improvements effected in the local Domain, as this ground has become very popular both as a picnic resort and aa playing grounds for the various sports clubs. Several minor improvements have been effected, but a larger scheme of filling and levelling is very necessary, with other alterations, to get the 'full I benefit of this beautiful ground, j This 'proposal has received some impetus last j week, owing to the Domain Board being ’fortunate enough to secure the transfer lot' the old Ambulance building andesite 'from the Defence Department, in which 'they were helped by the assistance ..of jMr’H. Atmore M.P., and the courtesy 'of Major Robinson of the local Defence Office. So Wakefield has a good opportunity, and a public meeting wiH_be held ’in the Temperance Kail Lodge rooms, on Friday evening next, to fully discuss and arrange: this matter.- - | It may interest the public, to’ stale ; that the Wakefield Domain was acquired in 1903 by Government assistance end local effort, and that the final instalments of the amount then raised by debentures to arrange the purchase was last year completely paid off. A local committee has been allotted the task of erecting a War Memorial in the shape of a statue with soldier figlire, but in common with otheF committees who have This form 1 of memorial in liand are finding delay and difficulty. A provisional contract was let locally but could not be completed, and an offer by an Australian firm has also been withdrawn. Nevertheless the, Committee do not waver in their intention to carry out the agreed-on proposal, as it is- considered the soldier figure is by far the most suitable for the site, '

(V Kingsland with much ■good nature 5 , Tins some coaching a class of young recruits, whose membership will no doubt shortly be of great benefit to the Band; The lodal A.M.C.A. boai’d of directors have lately established an excellent billiard table ' behind their tea-rooms here and it haa already been a very popular institution.
