WAR MEMORIAL AT NGATIMOTI
Yesterday afternoon memorial to those who had left) the district and had fallen in the Great Var was unveiled by the BidmpofNelson in the presence of a larp andjw^r pjit asscmhla go-—there being an.. attendance of about 600 or-TOO fro m all. Ss of the district. The memorial took the form of a brass tablet m the Church of England ami an obelisk .of Takaka marble erected imtho adjoininy: churchyard. On both were inscribed the names of those wbo had made'the supremo sacrifice including Private Ham. who was the first New Zealander killed in action. .Among these present were Kov. H. U mires, who was at the -landing-on Gallipoli, the Mayor of Nelson (Mr W. W« Snodgrass), Mr R. P. Hudson, M.P. for Motueka, Colonel Brereton, commanded the 12th (N. and M.) giment at the landing, and several other officers and men of the Mam Body. The firing ' party was composed of returned soldiers, and tne “Last Post” was sounded. Bishop of Nelson dehvCTed an impressive address, and Rev. H. L. offered prayer. Dunn; the afternoon a stirring speech was t delivered . Mr R. V. Hudson, M.P.
