HOME MISSION FESTIVAL
PRELIMINARY MEETING The Bishop of Nelson presided at a largo' and representative meeting-, inostlv ladies, at the Shelboarne-streot Schoolroom yesterday afternoon. The chairman outlined- the purpose,for which the meeting, was,called, and stressed the necessity for the existence <and support of the Home Mission Fund.in the Diocese, owing to the large number of small communities scattered in out of the way i luces, and while regretting the present financial outlook, stated that the future, of this diocese in, his opinion, ivas' particularly bright. He cbiisdered that tlio number of, persons offering +hemselves for the-rite of’Confirmation.was always a good indication of vitality iu church life, and stated that the number confirmed in this diocese during the past twelve month was greater than for many years past. The difficulties- which had to le cvercotne were briefly touched mi, and the position of the Home Mission Fund described. _ • Apologies wore received-from Alesdames I’itts-Brown, Washbourno, Harley, Eastcott, Hyson, and Johnstuue,' and Misses Harris (2). After discussion, it was resolved that the annual festival be held on June Ist next. , • . , , ' The following ladies’ committee was appointedMisSes Cooke (.8), Eichmond, F Maginnity, Davidson .2), Capper, Walker (2), York, Oldham, Harris (2), Mesdames Cockburn, Sola odors. Bring - Rowe, Sadlier, Weekes, H, M. Field. Jiarkness, Esteotirt, Nanrarrow, .Wright, Eastcott, and S. Lucas. The executive are:— Misses Coolie (2), Richmond, Mesdamon Harknoss, Estcourt, Wright Eastcott, and Sadlior, with power to add to their number. The following were elected a committee with power to add:—Dean Weeks, Revs. Austin. Pring-Rowe, Messrs Dyson, Wright, Williams, Sykes, IT. York, W. O. Davies, 6. Broniiloy, E. E. Bbycs. Mesdames Cockburn and Sclanders were again unanimously elected joint secretaries, Mrs' Cockburn spoke of the excellent work that had been done by Miss Moore on the crockery committee, and expressed tegrot that she had to retire on account of ill-health. Misses F. Cooke and Cooksey were elected members of the above mentioned committee.
