PEOPLE’S PICTURES. “NEW YORK LUCK.” “Now York Luck,” a- splendid William Russell production with an amusing theme, will be screened at the popular Theatre Royal this evening. A country youth arrives in Now York, and alter , disappointments during ■ which time he writes glowing accounts home his imagination leads him to tell a wonderful tale of how he found his way to the home of a beautiful girl, whose, purse he had picked nit in his home town, where the train on which she passed had been side-tracked. Tins tale includes the, rescue of the girl and her father from a, pair of crooks. This part presenting some thrilling melodrama. The return of the real story brings on the scene a moving picture director from the youth’s homo town. After leading the letter the*director tells the youth that if he can turn out •stories of that calibre he will give him one thousand dollars and a steady job. The actual meeting of the youth and the girl, a moving picture actress, takes place later, and is quite amusing. Francelia Billington plays in a fascinating manner the role, of the, girl. The third instalment of that- rattling serial. “A Man of Might,” is also in the list of supporting items. HAYWARD’S PICTURES. Madge Evans. Another startling programme is announced. for to-night at Hayward’s In the World feature,, “Home Wanted,” Madge Evans, the famous child star, has a, story„with real human appeal to ail children, young and old. She was an orphan, at once the darling and ibe despair of the matron ami staff of the, orphanage. Her search for the beautiful mother of her dreams led her to a crabbed old man, obsessed by -bis wealth and bis blue-blooded autecry dents. How she brought into bis warped life rays of golden sunshine, taught him to be human and luting to liis kind, and found his lost grandson and heir, makes a story of rare charm and beauty. She* always counted ten before she spoke, and her motto, learned as a babe, was “You’re bound to win If yotf persevere, where there’s a will there’s a way, my dear.” And that was just what did the trick. The cast T. Carletou, Anna Lehr, Jack Drmuier, Hugh Thompson, Cl ms. Sutton, Maude T. Gordon, Winifred Leighton, and Michael Hanlon. The picture is produced under the direction of Tell’t Johnson from a story by Lucy .Server. The supoi'ts include, an exhilarating Victor comedy, entitled “Good Morning, Nurse.”

That will give .■some idea of Wallace Reid’s triumph, “The Valley of the Ciant-s,” but it does not do the picture full justice. “Thi! Valley of the Giants” is sityatcd i.u the huge Californian .Redwood forests, and the way in w r hich those regions are "reproduce on the screen is nothing short of wonderful. The scenery is sublimely majestic and ho pgrobotaphy excellent, and, what’s more, the story is just ns big as its surroundings. It is unusual, powerful, rugged, and the beholder’s interest is gripped right at the' start, and increases with every reel. The picture is crammed with action, which is lent tidti' into by a skilfully interwoven romance. Wallace Reid is supported by Grace Darmond, Will Ur unton, Charles Ogle,.
