STEAMER PAEROA BEACHED
AT HOKITIKA. (United Press Associ. .on) HOKITIKA, This Day. The coastal steamer Paeroa, when crossing the Hokitika bar outw auls vestexday struck the ground heavily, and carried away her stempost am* rudder. • A temporary steering gear was fixed, but the steamer wag leaking, heavily, and it was found necessary to. beach*her one mile to tho northward. All on borad were landed safely. The vessel had a cargo of sown timber for Picton. HOKITIKA, This Day. The directors of the Hokitika Shipping Company, at a meeting this morning, resolved to abandon the steamer Paeroa to the underwriters. She wag insured tor £750. and the cargo of timber was also insured.
