The New York Times Ottawa correspondent states •• that it is understood.-the Canadian Government has asked Mr Taft to represent- it on the Grand Trunk Arbitration Board to determine the value of first, second, and third preference and common stocks in Hie Grand Trunk Railway. It is said the choice of Mr Taft- is for the purpose of assuring English stock holders. The Canadian Government js anxious to secure the most impartial arbitrator. OTTAWA. It is understood the tariff agreement provides for three -scales, the preference ranging from a moderate reduction in certain articles to a free list for others, including some foodstuffs. Both parties state that a substantial preference in sugar is probable.
