ACTION BY CHAMBER OF At a special meeting of tlie Council of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, it was resolved that tile following telegrams be forwarded to the Prime Minister; — ■ “Re sugar, the Nelson Chamber oi Commerce wish to draw your attention to tire fact that our principal in.hiuif actavers here, namely, Kirkpatrick's fruit ■ preserving and jam factory and Griffin’s biscuit and confectionery works, are being brought to a, standstill, and are discharging many hands, owing to the fact that they are unable to secure sugar to carry on ; and further, that it lias been definitely admitted bv the Board of Trade about 28bh May that Nelson has not been receiving her fair quota. This makes Dio shortage very acute, both for manufacturing and household purposes.
