•71st AXNIVEiISAKY. Large congregations assembled at both services at Trinity Prose;. r,.?rtan Church yesterday, on the oWsbn of the 71st anniversary of die congregation. The preacher for the day was the Right llev. J. A. Asher, 8.A., • Moderator; of the General Assembly, who delivered .two thougiPful and stirring sermons. Ih-fuio coiiom nc:ng tlie morning nun, the Moder nor stated that >t gaie ini.; i the representative head of the Presbyterian Church in Now Zealand, to convey to the Presbyterians of one of the oldest churches, in the colony, the greetings of the General Assembly. He wished them all prosperity in their tvork, in this beautiful capital of the Nelson Province. The sermon was based on*2nd Peter, chapter 3, v. 12, “Looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God.” The preacher stated first that this should be the vision and ideal which should present*;itself to the Christian. Church. He then went on to show that a church should not only look for that ideal, but make some contribution towards its* realisation, and last of all he spoke of the great diving Power which constrains men to be up. and doing. 'The sermon was listene dto with the closest attention which usually characterises a Presbyterian congregation. The Church was very well attended at the evening service, wiien special music suitable to the occasion was rendered by the Choir. The Moderator based his remarks on St. Mark. chap. 10, v. 12—“ He was manifested .in another form,” and spoke of the varying forms and peculiar manifestations in which Christ appeared to men in different situations, and at varying stages of their careers. Both services were very successful, and the officebearers and congregation feel that the anniversary was'most fittingly commemorated. The celebrations will be-brought to ■A'conclusion "to-morrow evening by a mire, the speakers at which will be "the Right Rev. the Moderator, and the Revs K. D. Patchett and H. W. Austin, M.A.
