PETROL SHORTAGE

SUPPLIES TO BE CUT ’ DOWN (United Press Association.) WELLINGTON Feb. 20. A shortage of petrol is being experienced in New Zealand at the present time and is reported to be having serious results in certain dairying districts where farmers are unable to secure an adequate supply for engines driving the milking ,machines. Fishermen have complained ox the lack of in el for their motor launches and other essential industries have felt the pinch. The Prime Minister, referring to the matter yesterday, said the shortage had 1 been accentuated by the sinking of a steamer carrying 43,000 eases of petrol for New Zealand in the Panama canal.
