CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 18- ’ Relatives of General Hird■vvood received a letter y day, dated Melbourne, -Oth January, in which the General asys that he hopes to be m New Zealand in June. “Nothing, however, General Birdwood added, “is definitely fixed about my dates, etc./nor have I received definite sanction from India to make such an extended tour in this part of the world. But I hope* I shall be permitted to see through what I know wil be a really pleasant am refusing to make any definite engagements in advance, either in Australia or in New Zealand, for my tour is being arranged by the Government, and naturally I do not like to make . engagements, which might conflict with official arrangements”
