DEATH OF AN INFANT
INQUEST AT DUNEDIN (United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. An inquest was opened today on • the body ; of a newlyborn infant found in a sack on St. Clair beach -on Tuesday with a piece of linen tied tightly round the neck. Dr. Evans said the “body was fully developed' and well nourished. There was a circular pressure mark on the neck. He was of opinion that the child had lived and that the cause of death was asphyxia. There was no water in the lungs, showing that the infant had , not been drowned and that there must have been some interference, with the air supply. ' A constable said that the bag had apparently* been in the sea, but it could not have been there long, as it was found at the high-water mark. The Coroner adjourned the inquiry sine die.
