AFGHANS DRIVEN OFF

(Rea May 23, 9.10 a.m.) ° LONDON, May 21. The Vicerov reports that the Afghans attacked' on the 16th but were driven off and the night was quiet. Oin casualties were about 130. Our tioops with aeroplanes attacked on 1/tn, cap turing the hill westward of Dakka early in the afternoon. Our casualties have not' yet been reported. Ihe enemy s strength was eight battalions. Over a hundred dead were counted. They were mostly regular troops. Four guns were captured. The commander reports that on the 18th the situation was very satisfactory. Our pickets are holding the hills westward and 1 north-westward of Dakka. Our successful action had an instantaneous and beneficial effect onj the tribes. I
