AUTOMATIC STAMPING MACHINES

Mr H. A. Higgins, in evidence recarding automatic stamping machines, 620 of which wore in use in Wellington, said the absence of colour in the impression made by the machine was iuclinecF to hamper the work of postal clerks who dealt with, letters. By the use of the machines, the Department was losing about £I2OO a year. The machine was a considerable convenience, as it obviated the necessity of firms keeping accounts. Answering a question, he said the ■firms were up against the Department because they did not receive commission for stamps. . Mr-'Caddie, of the Agricultural Department, spoke of the manufacture of Casein. Manufacture, in his opiriiop, might be fostered by making it free to anybody.
