AUCKLAND, Tins Day. The estmordand, which arrived with Maori troops on Saturday, when last in port here had a fire aboard, the estimated damage to the cargo being about £50,000. Nearing the Horne port on the outward voyage she was struck by a torpedo which made a hole 30 feet in diameter inside and flooded No. 2 hold. She steamed ashore and was beached, being considerably damaged by~seai. She was floated and taken to Liverpool for repairs.
