TRAGEDY AT SEA.
FIREMAN JUMPS OVERBOARD

WELLINGTON, March 26,
When the Moana was two days from Rarotonga a fireman who had been pnt ashore at Tahiti from the Paloona 1 on that vessel’s upward, trip was seen to jump overboard. A lifebelt was thrown so close to the man that it could have easily been seized, but .no effort was made to secure it. The Moana cruised about for three-quarters of an hour, hut a heavy sea was. running, and as it was getting" dark nothing further could be done. The man is said to'have, suffered from insomnia.
