A FAR-RANGING - ENQUIRY
The older cf refeience for the Epidemic Commi sion was again discussed at a meeting of Cabinet, says the Post,
Final consideration, o t'this rr*itter had been held over til! the return of the Hon. G. W. Rus ell, who arrived last evening. The details will be announced soon.
Though the commission does not include a medical man, the order of reference will ensure the calling of ample rn dical evidence. The Health Department will be represented by medical experts. All available evidence from bacteriologists and others as to the nature of the disease will be obtained.
The question as to the part played by the Niagara or other ships—mercantile, marine or returning transports—in introducing and spreading the disease will be fully investigated. An important part of the inquiry will be concerned with the housing conditions in congested areas of such cities as Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin. The order of reference will facilitate a thorough exposure of anything which needs opening up to Hie light in the public interest.
