Ho stated that the grounds of his objection to the issuing of a license were (that it was not required and that the conduct of race ■ meetings without a license had greatly improved them. The proximity of Trentham Camp was also a reason why . it should not be granted. In the event . of a license being granted, he made a suggestion that no liquor should be sold for consumption off the permises. A motion that the application be declined was supported byi Messrs J. W. McEwan, J, Cotton, and W. Wearne. An. amendment that the application be granted, subject to the condition that men from the military camps in hospital uniform be not supplied with liquor, was voted for by Messrs W. i Cotton, M.
