Cct. 15. 8.55 a.m.) _ LONDON, Oct. 14. ?Sir Douglas Haig reports:—On the afternoon of the 13th (Sunday) the ciiemy opened a heavy bombardment en a wide front, northward of Le Gateau, launching strong infantry attacks on our positions eastward of the ■Selle river in the neighbourhood of Solesmes. These attack.; were successfully repulsed after stiff fighting. Other attacks in which tanks were employed, supporting the infantry assault against our positions opposite J-iaspres, were unsuccessful. Our patrols advanced at a number of points southward and northward of Douai. They gained ground, taking prisoners.
