■TvO HERE - MOT'tJ'P IK'O BRANCH. A meeting of the Korere-Motupiko ■branch of the Farmers' Union was held at Motupiko on August 31st. About twenty members attended, and the .president (Mr G. L. Mead) occupied tin' chair. Correspondence was read and considered. As no reply had been received from Matariki branch as to their at-titud-e with regard to increased telephone connection with the doctor and postmaster at Wakefield, it was deciden to write asking for an early reply anci ;leave the matter to the ■executive to deal with. As the Dovedale branch was not inclined to support the proposal, it was decided to write and urge them to reconsider their attitude from .the :point of view that one branch of the Farmers' Union should as a duty support other 'branches, and to point out that the Stanley Brook branch, one of the smallest, were prepared to give support on a pro rata basis. A letter irom the Stoke 'Progressive Association proposed that the amount secured from the sale 01 Nelson wharf should be earmarked for- the extension of the Nelson railway, which had been promised for the last twenty years. —It ■was resolved to support and keep in view the proposal. The idea was expressed that the money should be considered as an extra vote for the purpose, and that it should not be expected to ihe expended before the termination of the war. A .good deal of indignation was expressed over the adopted site for the new school at Korere, and it "was resolved to 'urge the Education Board to appoint a committee to meet the householders, and discuss the mattpr before the building was proceeded with. In reply to an inquiry from Mr I\.P. Hudson, M.P., as to any requirements for the appointment of more Justices of the Peace, it was decided to inform him that the district was already well provided. The Korere Post Office report was considered, and the Chief Postmaster is to be notified on points raised, and asked, for information when it is available. . ' It was pointed dut that no school concession tickets are issued to girls on Saturdays beyond Belgrove, but only to ; boys. These tickets- are only issued on schooldays, and College girls getting a holiday on Saturdays cannot get home for week-ends, as ■ there is no train through on Fridays. It was resolved to write to the 'Minister of Education through the member for the district, statiiig- that this branch considered the uTiom'Sry should be removed. Complaints were made as to the statu of a culvert near the Kohatu Hotel stables, .and the attention of the WaiCounty Council is to be drawn to i ItWas proposed and carried unani mously, "That in- the appointing of an- . other member from the Nelson district. | to the Legislative Council, the farming and pastoral community should -be considered, and that we wish to draw atI tention to the merits of Mr G-eorgp I >M;ve"i.ahon of Tapawera. In recent appointments the farming and pastoral j interests have been largely overlooked. The above to be fowarded to the ActI irig-Prime Minister through the member for the district, and copies to be sent to other branches of the union, the Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Stoke Progressive Association." Eulogistic references were made to ;Mr Macma'lion and to the work he has done for the district. iOwing to the severe illness of the vicepresident, Mr J. Rrough, a vote of sympathy was passed and the hope Expressed that he would make a speedy recovery, and regain full health. Mr N Cole spoke on the great n«cd for tree-planting, and pointed out what could lie accomplished to fulfil future requirements. The question of juries on such cases ns sheep-stealing was brought up, and it was resolved to write to Mr R.
