RETIREMENTS *ANiD .APPOINTMENT. (TTnited Press Association.) GIiSBORNE, July 8. Mr W. A. Barton., iS.M., has receded 1 notice of his retirement on superannuation, as from the end of the month. CH'RISTOHURCH, July 8. Mr H. "W. Bishop, .senior Magistrate at Christchurch, is retiring next month on superanuation. *_ . Mr F. K. Hunt, a well-known Cmuatsolicitor, has been appointed a Magistrate, and will probably be stationed at Auckland.
Mr F. K. Hunt was born an London, but came to New Zealand aV am early age. He was educated at Christ'« College, and was afterwards articled to Mr J. C. Martin. He was admitted a solicitor in 1891, and subsequently as> a barrister. Mr H. W. Bishop will retire from the Bench on August 1. He-' has been given three months' leave of absence on full pay from that date. This actio;i has been 'taken oni account of a decision of the Minister for Justice that all magistrates over 65 years of agosbnil retiro on superannuation. Mr Bishop is senior magistrate in New Zealand, as well as l in Chiustclmrch. He was appointed to the Bench in, 1682, and has served for 36 years without a .holiday, and without even the usual Court holidays. He has been about 45 years hi the service of the. State, and has filled i many positions. Mr Bishop's retirement from the Bench will not affect his work on the Second Canterbury Miliary Service Board, of which ho is chairmant. Mr Bishop was born in &»£- ■ land in 1851, and is the son of the [late Rev. A. C. Bishop, M.A. He was i educated privately, and arrived at Lytr itelton in 1869. He entered the Native Department in 1873, and soon ; afterwards became interpreter' to Judge I Miming, author of "Old New Zeala'd," ,He wa s atachedi to the Native Land \ ''Court of the northern district in , 1376, f and in the same year becarrie clerk and interpreter to the Resident Magistrate's Court at Hokianga. He became Vesicant I -raagistraile at Mangonui inl 1882, and in 3890 was apoiiited to the North Auckland district. 'He became magistrate in.
