Approximate, figures giving "the reittion between the revenue and war expenditure show that £149,000,000 have been raised in the Commonwealth by means of war loans and war savings certificates, in addition to £47,500,000 borrowed from'»the British Government for war purposes; while £39,750,000 represents the expenditure by Britain on Australian troops, for which, the Commonwealth is liable. *
From the beginning of the war to the end: of June last the Commonwealth raised by direct taxation £206,564,276, and expended in war interest j sinking fund and pensions £20,011,004. It is announced that benefits for widows under the repatriation scheme will be available to a soldier's wife wlo becomes a widow within seven years after the soldier's discharge.
