SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.

- MOTUEKA DISTRICT. A meeting of the above Association was held last Saturday' evening in the High- School room. Motueka.

The following were present as delegates : Motueka : 11. Oliver. H. J. Trewavas, W. B. IGlover.

Riwak'a : B. J. Goodall. Ngatimote : J. A. Guy, B. N. Tom linson.

Pokororo : H. Green, L.. P. Haycock. Rockv River : 'C. Remnant. Upper Moutere: C. D. C Egg era Neudorf : H. Beuke, Geo. Perry. Messrs H. J. Mytton (Pokororo), \V. Bi'idile, Jas. King and I. McFarlane (Motueka also attended the meeting. An apology -was received from Mr F. E, Nottage (Tasman for non-attendance on account of the bad state of the road which, at present, in some places, is almost impassa'ble. We understand that this also prevented the attendance of delegates' from Mahana and Mapua.

The chair was occupied by Mr Oliver. He referred to the representative character of the meeting wbici' spoke well for the future success of the Association. Reference was also made to the increased, interest now 'being taken in educational matters Ty the ;eneral public. Pressure was bei::.g bi ought to bear upon the Department in various' ways for improved "faci.Trie*', and better methods of instruction; and it \va; satisfactory to know that the "forward move" in connection with these important questions had the sincere approved, and very hearty sympathy of the present Minister of Education.

The minutes of the previous' meeting were read and' confirmed. in. reply to a- request for information, a letter was read from the .Secretary of the Wellington School Committees Association wishing the Motueka Association every success, and enclosing a copy of the objects, rules and regulations of the Wellington body.

Correspondence was placed before the meeting in connection with the rejection of Mr Oliver's, nomination as a candidate for a seat on the Edu cation Board.

Resolved, Messrs H. Green and H. J Trewavas. that this Association confirm the protest lodged by Mr Oliver. That further steps be taken to legally test the matter; and, i? necessary, that the whole question 'be referred to the Minister of Education. (Carried unanimously). The following were appointed to serve on the Executive for • the ensuing year ; President: H. Oliver ; Vice-presidents.: F. E. Nottage, J. A. Ouy, Geo. Perry : Secretary : W. R. Glover; Treasurer: H. J. Trewavas.

Additional members : H. Green, 33. J/ Goodall, >C. J>. C Eggers. Resolved, Messrs Gnv and Green, that the Association meet on the 2nd Saturday in each months at 2 p.m. Resolved, Messrs .Eggers and Perry, that the entrance fee for joining tHe association be as follows: For committees of 5, 7, and 9 members respectively, 7s 6d, 15s and 20s per annum. Resolved, Messrs H. Green and Eggers, that further necessary rules be drawn up 'by the President, VicePresidents, Secretary and Treasurer, and submitted to the next meeting of the Association to 'be held on 10th August.

Before separating advantage was taken of the presence of the country delegates to indulge in a social chat on important matters affecting the various committees, and, the interchange of ideas 'effected in this> way will, no doubt, prove beneficial.

The meeting closed with a vote c thanks to the President.
