•MONTHLY MEETING,

the monthly meeting of the Union was held on Tuesday afternoon in the Rechabits Hall, 'Mrs Watson presiding. Letters were read from Miss Henderson. New Zealand Corresponding Secretary. and Mr Dawson, with reference to the. prohibition campaign, a conference in connection with which is being held in 'Christchurch on July 11th. Representatives of Nelson Union were invited to attend, and Mrs Watson and Mis Wilkinson were appointed by the Union as delegates. A circular was read fvom the New Zpm land Educational Institute, asking for the co-operation of the Union in the ma|, ter of educational reforms. TJie following resolutions were passed in connection therewith: —'"That the Nelson Union express its sympathy with the iNew Zealand .Educational Institute i" its efforts to secure the improvement and extension of our education system, and will be .very glad to assist the Institute in every possible way" ; '"'that the secretary be asked to write t-o Mr F. Coleman, secretary of the Nelson Branch of the asking that one of it? members may address the Nelson AV.C.T.TJ. at a'n early opportunity." The following resolution was also pa«=ed in > connection with the reported disorderly conduct amongst soldiers in Wellington : "In view of the recent disturbances reported in the papers, the Nelson W.C/T.U. would l urge upon the -Act-ing-Prime Minister and Minister of Defence the desirability of closing all hole) bars on the arrival of with, invalided soldiers on board until after their dispersal to their homes, instead of penalising the soldiers and making ••■ distinction between them and the civilians by putting hotels out of bounds." Mention, was also made of the statement in the Vanguard as to rum ration* being served to soldiers in New Zealand camps, and it was decided to write to Mr Dawson or fuller details.—'Resolved that a letter of thanks and appreciation bo sent to "Mrs- Cook, Nile street, foilier kind hospitality to •'Mrs iNapler. M-s Hill was appointed Joint Organiser will) Mrs Knapp of. the Mine-'Sleepers' Fund. Announcements were made of the Tntercessorv Service on July 26th, and Good Citizenship meetings on Julv-17Ui at Mrs Hill's, and July 31st at Mrs C. Graham's, when a paper by Mr G. A Edmonds on Municipal law will be read. It was also stated that Mrs Beryman would visit Nelson in the -first week in August. . -. ■
