MAHANA. The monthly meeting of the Mahana "Fruitgrowers' Association was held in the Mahana, Schoolroom on Wednesday, July 3rd, Mr O. A. Henderson presiding. A letter was received from the Federation asking the Association to support a resolution that was considered at the recent conference with reference to the Fruit Preserving Industries Act. —It was unanimously agreed that the resolution be adopted. The Association for some time has been in communication with the 'Minister of Public Works regarding a portion of the Appleby-Mapua road, and in consideration of the appeals made and the difficulties which the settlers are. placed in, the Minister .has been good enough to find the whole of the money for the mile of road asked for, including a bridge, and hns issued instructions to the Distinct Engineer to have the same constructed. The meeting was very much indebted to Mr A. P. Allport, who gave an excellent lecture on "Pruning,* 1 ' particularly as applied to young trees. Mr Allport has given much time and study to the growing of young apple trees, and his lecture was followed: with keen interest. Mr Bensemann desired to show to the meeting some drawings illustrating a theory that he had applied successfully to the heading and subsecpient pruning of young trees. This was discussed and criticised at length by both Mr Allport and the members. A hearty vote of thanks by acclamation was accorded Mr Allport for his excellent lecture. RIWAKA. ST.
