ROYAL SILVER WEDDING.
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association J LONDON, July 6. There is great rejoicing throughout the country in connection with the Royal silver wedding. A semi-State thanksgiving service was held at St. Paul's •Cathedral. The Royal progress was enthusiastically acclaimed in the streets. KING'S REPLY TO LORD MAYOR'S ADDRESS. (Rec. July 8. 9-5 a.m.) LONDON. July 6 The King, r. plying to the Lord Mayor's silver wedding address at the Guildhall, said : "I have seen with jov fui craiitude the whole-hearted response to thj call to duty which reverberated throughout the Empire. In the presence of distinguished representatives of tlii dominions, colonies, and Empire of India, I -warirly acclaim the noble self-sacrificing spirit of our brothers across the seas wno have given their uest in our united' defenc. of liberty and right." He aeciared that it was impossible to adequately pay tribute' to the d ei's of the navy, army, air force-, an.: mercantile services He especially mentioned the troops in East Africa. Mesopotamia, 'Palestin. . and other distant theatres who had expe rienced most trying times. He paid a tribute to the spirit of mutual conces sion animating employ, rs and worker* and expressed the belief that in the furnace of war new links of under standing md sympathy were being forged' b: tween man and' man and class and class.
