(From Our.Own Correspondent.) v Saturday last was a. busy day for ,<Mur--4 cluson - . There were so many meetings, socials and sittings of Courts, etc.. that your correspondent found it difficult to attend them all. First came the APPEAL BOAiR/n, But there was only one- appellant— : Mr B. Li. Symonds, of Maruia. His appeal was adjourned for three months. FAREWELL. The Soldiers' Gift Fund social was very well attended,' and the Recruiting Committee took the opportunity of farewelling Private Flemwell and Warne, who were home on final leave. iMr Jos. Brown, in a very appropriate speech, addressed the men and made the usual presentation. MEDICAL ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Murchison Medical Association was held in the Council Chambers, Mr H. J. Hodgson presiding. The report and balance-sheet, as read by the secretary (Mr H. Fraser), were received and adopted. •Mo- Hodgson, who has been chairman of the executive for some years, ex pressed his desire to retire, and moved that the following be the members of the Executive Committee for the coming vear:—Messrs Jno. Badcock, MeCaa, 0. Lester. "Geo. Thomson, T. French, J. Dow me., Jos. Brown and J. Bredbury. ' There being no other nominations, the aforementioned were elected unanimoussecretary '.Mr Fraser) expressed himself in very appreciative terms as to the help and assistance he had received irom their late chairman, Mr Hodgson. On the motion of Mr Bredbury a heartv voce of thanks and apprecition of Mr Hodgson's services was carried with acclamation. Mr Hodgson moved that it be a recommendation to the new Committee u> again approach the County Council as to the advisability of the Council taking over the management of the Murchison Medical Association.—Carried unani iiiously. „ , i At the first meeting of the newlyelected Committee, Cr. J. Badcock was, unanimously elected Chairman.

'(SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. At a recent meeting of the School Committee, Mr Eraser presiding, several important improvements were consider, ed, viz., new fencing to the front of the .school grounds, shelter shed, etc. The Committee unanimously decided to nominate Mr J. Bredbury, 9* as a candidate for the East \Vard at the election of members to the Nelson Education Board. As a committee they are respectfully requesting \the respective committees in the Ear* Ward to support and vote for the return of their candidate to the Board. .!;■■.- SERIOUS ACCIDENT. 4. serious accident occurred at Braebum, Tutaki, on Tuesday, afternoon, shout 5 o'clock. A young man named George Brockie, who comes here from Dunedin and was working for Ma ±ioiton. who has recently taken over M> F. Page's property at Braeburn. «»£ nears Brockie was cutting firewood with the circular saw, and suddenly the h.enrincs gave wav and bearings, shafting and a aw iere flung upwards and the sawcaught the unfortunate young fellow in the'stomach and left arm causing a terrible gash. -Mr Horton and his neighSours rendered first aid until the -arrival of Dr. Warneford, who promptly at tended to -the sufferer, who was afterwards brought in to the emergency hospital, .M'urchison, and is now progressing very favourably. Cr. Thomson moved that the rate for horse hire be raised to 9s per clay for Tiorse and dray and 8s for a leader.—Seconded bv Cr. Badcock and carried.

Marshal J. Forma n applied l for permission to erect a. gate on the (Jlenroy road.

W. J. Ford wrote objecting to the gate.

C>r. Newman that the Mines ■Department be asked to transfer the bal ance of £27 10s from Louie Creek Track grant, and that the letter be sent in support of the request. —Seconded by Cr. Monahan and carried.

Logan and Fell and Atkinson re the SixMile water rights.—The chairman reported having accompanied Mr Barnes., C.E., to the Six 'Miile, and as a resxiKFof his report as to value of pipes, etc., and his opinion as to the value of the water right, he had decided to purchase the property, but nothing further would be done until Mr Barnes's report came to hand, and then the matter could be submitted to the ratepayers. The chairman expressed the hope that all C'rs. would meet Mr Barnes at a special meeting if necessary.—Resolved that a special meeting be called if necessary. The secretary, Nelson Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote re levy due The Clerk referred to a local case where a patient who had' been in the Hospital several weeks had not been charged.— Tt was resolved to again suggest to the Board that lists of fees be sent to the contributing local bodies of the district? to which the patients belonged. The Waimea County Council wrote asking if this Council would contribute its quota towards the cost of a motor ambulance for the Hospital at Nelsop The amount required'-frp'm the Council on the rateable value basis is £27.

Win, local member of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board Was pre sent and explained the matter fully, as lo charges for the use of the ambulance, and stated that reasonable charges would have to be made to cover the cost of running it; but patients in indigent circumstances would not have to pay. A letter was also read from the Waimea County Clerk.

Cr. Badcock expressed the opinion that the jwesent was a bad time to'purchase an ambulance,. The war might be over before long, and then there would be thousands of ambulances available at hall trie cost or less than that required now. Cr. Monahan spoke in favour of- the Council contributing its share as requested. Cr. Thomson moved that the Murchi son County Council contribute its quota of £27. —Seconded by Cr. Badcock. Cr. .Newman moved as an amendment that this Council's contribution be reilm ed/'bv half, viz., £l3 10s. on the groun that "the out-districts will not use it a: much in proportion to population as the city and surrounding districts. He believed in having the ambulance, as he thought it a necessity.—Seconded by the chairman.

'Monahan mpved that the CouncP pay lor .small birds' heads and eggs or the following scale, viz., heads (black birds, thrushes, sparrows, linnets), 6 per dozen; eggs, 3d per dozen.—Seconded by Cr. 'Newman a:id carried. The payments to be charged to eacl riding's account respectively. Cr. Thomson moved that the Counci' procure poisoned grain also. —Seconded by Gr. Badcock and carried. J. E.
