SHIPPING TRANSACTION.
A HUNDRED- SHIPS INVOLVED

NtEW YORK, (May 19. • The Jouranl of Commerce learns that the Itvtenvitional Mercantile Marine Companv is negotiating the sale of a hundred* of the British ships to British interests. The transaction, if completed, will involve 900;000 tons, and more than a hundred 1 million dollars. The ships include several well-known White Star vessels, and also 44 freight steamers. The identity of the purchasers is doubtfuT, but it is believed that Lord Inchcape and Lord Pirrie are associated with the transaction.
