TOWN SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

•MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Town Schools Committee was held last evening in the Education Board room. Present: Mr £, 35* Boyes (chairman), Airs Redgrave, Messrs J. A. Stringer, J. Easdale, W. McConchle, ft. Watson, and- J. \V. Treacher. Art apology for absence was received from Mrs Buchanan. The headmaster (Mr ,F. V. Knapp; reported on the Girls' iSchool that the school had been opdii 33 times, the average attendance being' 191.3 boys and 381.1 girls; total 578.4, or 98.8 per cent of the number on the roll. There nad been 38 admissions and 1? withdrawals during the month, the total roll number being 652 (214 boys and 438 girls). Despite a fair amount of sickness, ehieflv colds, the attendance had been well maintained, and l there were but a few cases of diphtheria. Mr Just, drill inspector, visited the side schools last week, and expressed himself well satisfied with the progress of the children in this part of their work. i It was decided to attend to some masters mentioned' in this report j The headmaster of the Boys' School (Mr F. €r. th'bbtO reported' that the schools other than the Tasman street had been open 38 times (Tasman street 26) The average attendance was 393.4 boys and 123.8.gir15, total 517.2, the roll number being 600 (447 boys and 153 girls). A letter was read from a- Wellington firm offering to supply wall charts of the Ten Commandments for the use of schools.—Tt was resolved to forward a recommendation to the Education Board' that a supply of the charts be obtained.
