POSITION OF C2 MEN.
IN SECOND DIVISION.
{ STATEMENT BY SIR JAMES I ALLEN.
J The Minister for Defence (the Hop Sir James Allen) stated on Friday that • there was no intention at present to ; have a medical re-examination of the :C2 men in the Second Division. It was impossible to say, however, what would have to be done as the war continued. , He could bind neither himself, as Min- . ister for Defence, nor the 'Government ! with regard to the ukimate future. The. j war was a fight to a finish with Geri ma.ny, and to achieve victory for the British Empire might require eventually all available resources of man power and material . To safeguard the State they might have to call for a.ctiye ser- ; vice men who were not within the • bounds of present needs. The Empire must fight on and on to the best of its atuKfey, with whatfevetr strength was available. It was therefore, impossible to-day to lay down a. rigid rule which • might practically mean total exemption for men who were only temporarily infit for active service according to the present, standards of examination.
