A FACE AT THE WINDOW
Only "a face at the window" — But its "bright smiles haunts me still!" Such memories are "golden," And remain so ever will !
Only a face at the window— As you pass along the road : But its fiance of cheery greeting From the heart may lilt a load .'
Only a face at the window— As the Boys march down the street; But in distant battle-marches It may help their lagging feet: —
Footsore and worn and wearyScarce sleep for many a day— The love in that "farewell" greeting "Will cheer with its tender ray! Or when, wounded maybe, they slumberAnd awhile forget their pain, That welcome "flash of sunshine" Will appear in their dreams again ! Only a face at the window — But its cheer may be felt afar, Like gleams from the noon-day sunshine, On the light of the Evening Star ! Smile on, ye charmful faces! .And a war-sick world beguile. There's many a heart will bless you For your bright, if passing, smile !
