An old resident of Nelson, Mr Francis Blincbe, died yesterday at the residence of his son-in-law, 5Mr G. L. Estcourt, the Wood, at the age of 88 years,. The deceased carried on the business of nurseryman io Waiinea for several years. His wife died about; 25 years ago.

The staff at the Stoke apple packing shed asembled to bid farewell to Mr H. 'Chisnall, who is going into camp with the Nelson draft. On behalf of his fel-low-workers in the shed, Mr Cresswell presented Mr Chisnall with' a pipe, and wished him a good voyage and a safe return. Mr Chisnall suitable responded.

Some time ago it was announced that Sergeant J. M. Stringer, N.Z.fF.A. (son of Mr J. A. Stringer, of Nelson) had been awarded the DvC.M. Advice has now been received that the decoration was awarded, for "conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. The battery was- subjected to very heavy fire ana a bivouac was blown in. He at once went to the spot, extricated a wounded *m.an and got him . clear. Twice latei* the sam e thintr occurred, and he again displayed the greatest courage and selfsacrifice in getting'the wounded out."
