Portable electric light plants are to be provided in the Canadian battle areas by the Canadian Red Cross for use in advanced dressing stations, where the 'candles and oil lamps now in use will be replaced by electric lights. j As an outcome of the report of the Canadian Commission . which has investigated the profits of Canadian packing houses, the Government has decided that in future all profits above 15 per cent, shall be confiscated. At Bigffl'eswade William Henry Scott a chemist, of Sandy (Beds.), pleaded guilty on four, counts charging him with refusing to billet soldiers, and was fined £2O. He had soldiers billeted on him last year, but in consequence of the men's complaints they were withdrawn. American shipyards, it is said, will be kept in full operation for the next 10 years in order to provide the immense fleet needed for the increased international trade after the -war. For the first time in 60 yards American shipyards are snid to be equalling British" shipyards in output. Mr A.
