CALLING UP OF MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES
WELLINGTON COUNCIL REVERSES DECISION.
(United Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, This Day.
Recently the City Council decided that while regretting so many of its staff being called up in the ballot, no appeals be lodged on behalf of employees. Last night, after an animated discussion, the Council decided, on. a narrow'■majority,. to rescind the prer vous resoluton and passed the following:—"That while the Council affirms the principle that every man possible must be spared "for service who may be drawn ins the ballot, they feel that full discretionary power should be left with the chief officers to appeal for employees whose loss would seriously inconvenience the city's works, " believing the tribunal set by the Government can be trusted to safeguard the country's interests."
