SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE.

PALMEKiSTON NORTH, May 14.
A largely-attended meeting of the Second Divison League passed a resolution': 'That this meeting loyally and steadfastly determines to assist the Government to brihg the war to a victorious ending, and we aim to procure, if possible, by constitutional methods the conservation of the welfare of all soldiet's and secure adequate allowances for their dependants/' In answer to a question, the chairman said that in many cases in which :i(jplications to the Financial .Assistance Board for assistance towards paying fire and life insurance premiums had been turned down further representations by the Central Executive had been successful, wholly or in part, in securing reconsideration of the claims made.
The following resolution was also passed: "This meeting urgently requests the Government to remit the sentences on Hunter, Langley, and Flood at Christchurch, on the ground that they are unduly severe and as such calculated to produce a feeling of resentment and lessen public faith in the fairness of the authorities.'' At a meeting of the Wellington branch of the 'Second Division League Mr p IHu iChaJpman moved 1 : "That this meeting of members of the Second Division League pledges its full and active support to whatever measures may 'be found advisable by the approaching Dominion Conference to secure by constitutional means the safeguarding of soldiers' homes and adequate living conditions for all defendants "
