A SENTENCE SQUASHED.

AUCKLAND-, May 14. In the Supreme- Court, Mr Justice Cooper quashed- the sentence of two 'mouths' imprisonment passed by Mr Frazer, S.M., on Walter Preston, on February 8, on a charge that, being a bookmaker, he 'did bet on the Takapuna course. Wie ground of appeal was that the conviction was against the weight of evidence. His Honour -am the case was highly suspicious, tit the evidence had not established tj.at degree of comparative certainty :i at would have enabled him io hold that Preston actually did bet on <h<- a.-j----in question.
