SPLENDID RESPONSE

Nelson and surrounding districts have responded nobly to the appeal for flowers, Iruit, and vegetables iu collection with the Pi-ess "Baby" effort in Wellington in aid of the lied Oross and Red Jersey .Funds. The Red Cross 13epot iu Bridge-street has been simply laden with flowem for packing, wiiile Mr Rutfoll. who has superintended the packing of vegetables, has also had' a- busy day. We inadvertently omitted reference to. Brightwater in yesterday s appeal. But Mrs. Fairev was not dismayed', and with helpers, -she ha.s sent in a very large and beautiful collection ol flowers, etc. The notice has been short, but the response has been particularly line. _A lorry load of goods came down by the mid-day train. The children of all the schools have been very active, and their effort* will mean a 'handsome contribution to the fund. Fuller details will be given iu to-mor-row's issue. We very sincerely thank all those who have combined to make this effort a great success.
