SWEPT OFF THE ROCKS.
• FATALITY AT EAREKARE. MAIN 1 I>ROW2*ED WHILTq FISHING. Ar- drowning accident occurred at about six o'clock last evening at Kara- , kare, West Coast, says the New Zealand Herald ,when a single man, Mr Laurie Collins, was washed from the rocks' and - carried out-to sea. Mr Col"who was 34 years of age, and a Government employee, was a resident of BZarakare. In the afternoon, accompanied by his brother-in-law, Mr Charles Cowan, deceased went on a fishing * excursion, venturing out on to an exposed rock known"" as Paratoe, some distance .from the shore. A fairly heavy sea was running, and while deceased was engaged in fishing, an unusually large breaker swept him off his feefc and carried him a considerable distance., -He was not seen again. Mr - Cowan ,who endeavoured to give assistance, had himself great difficulty in returning to the mainland from the reef. The body has not yet been recovered.
