CHESS SETS FOR TRANSPORTS.
(To tli'e Editor.) i Sir, —Some weeks ago we asked, I through your .columns, of your readers with spar e chess sets might be . good- enough to send l it-hem to us for ' the; use of the Iboys on transports. The response to -this appeal has 'been most generous. In several cases we have received sets which must hav 6 been in ! use for many years, the parting with r which, no doubt., caused: the donors a certain amount of regret. However, chess-players have acted most unsel- ; fishlyl in the matter, and have given u,p valuable sets in order that the soldiers on transports might hav e them. We thank all those of your readers I who ihave so kindly responded, and as- | sure them that the games will be put j to the use intended'.—l am, etc., ! , E. C.
